Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our non-emergency medical transportation services, booking process, and more.
What is non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT)?
Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) is a scheduled transport service for patients who need to travel to and from medical appointments but do not require emergency services like 911. NEMT is used for doctor visits, dialysis treatments, physical therapy, hospital discharges, facility transfers, and other healthcare-related trips. Liferock Ambulance provides wheelchair and stretcher transport as part of our NEMT services.
What areas does Liferock Ambulance serve?
We serve all of New Jersey, with a primary focus on Passaic County (Paterson, Clifton, Wayne, and more), Essex County (Newark, Montclair, Livingston, and more), and Morris County (Morristown, Parsippany, Dover, and more). Even if your pickup or destination is outside these counties, we can still help. Call us to discuss your needs.
What types of vehicles do you use?
We operate two types of vehicles: wheelchair-accessible vans equipped with hydraulic lifts and secure tie-down systems, and stretcher-equipped non-emergency ambulances for patients who need to remain lying flat during transport. Both types of vehicles carry supplemental oxygen equipment.
Do you provide oxygen during transport?
Yes. Supplemental oxygen is available on all of our vehicles, including both wheelchair vans and stretcher ambulances. If you or your loved one requires oxygen during transport, let us know when you schedule your ride and we will have everything prepared.
How do I book a transport?
You can book transport by calling us at (973) 256-5024 or by filling out the contact form on our website. We recommend booking at least 24-48 hours in advance when possible, though we do our best to accommodate same-day requests based on availability.
How far in advance should I schedule transport?
We recommend scheduling at least 24 to 48 hours in advance for the best availability. For recurring trips such as dialysis or physical therapy, we can set up a regular schedule so you do not need to call each time. We also accommodate same-day and urgent requests when our schedule allows.
Do you accept insurance?
We work with various insurance providers and Medicaid for eligible patients. Coverage varies depending on your plan and the type of transport needed. Call us at (973) 256-5024 to discuss your insurance coverage and we will help you understand your options.
How much does medical transport cost?
The cost of transport depends on several factors including distance, type of vehicle needed (wheelchair van or stretcher ambulance), and any special requirements. Call us at (973) 256-5024 for a free, no-obligation quote. We will provide you with a clear, upfront price before your trip.
What is the difference between wheelchair transport and stretcher transport?
Wheelchair transport is for patients who can sit in a wheelchair during the ride. Our vans have hydraulic lifts to load the wheelchair and secure tie-downs to hold it in place. Stretcher transport is for patients who need to remain lying flat, such as post-surgical patients or those with severe mobility limitations. Both services include trained attendants and supplemental oxygen if needed.
What should I expect on the day of transport?
On the day of your transport, our team will arrive at your location at the scheduled time. Our attendants will come to your door, assist you into the vehicle, and secure your wheelchair or stretcher. During the ride, an attendant will be with you at all times. Upon arrival at your destination, we will help you navigate to the entrance. For round trips, we will be there to pick you up at the agreed time.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask that you provide as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule your transport. We understand that medical situations can change unexpectedly, and we are flexible. Call us at (973) 256-5024 to cancel or reschedule, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
Are you an emergency service?
No. Liferock Ambulance provides non-emergency, basic medical transportation only. We are not a critical care or emergency service. We do not provide advanced life support, cardiac monitoring, or emergency interventions. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 immediately.
Are your drivers and attendants trained?
Yes. Every member of our team is professionally trained in patient handling, wheelchair and stretcher securement, CPR, and basic first aid. All team members are background-checked and committed to providing safe, compassionate care on every transport.
Can you transport patients to out-of-state facilities?
Our primary service area is New Jersey. For transport to facilities outside of New Jersey, please call us at (973) 256-5024 to discuss your specific needs. We will do our best to help or refer you to a provider who can assist with out-of-state transport.
Do you provide round-trip transport?
Yes, we offer both one-way and round-trip transport. For round trips, our team will drop you off at your appointment and return at an agreed-upon time to bring you back. This is especially popular for dialysis patients and those with recurring medical appointments.
